Colour co-ordination.
When it comes to making a decision on which coloured paver to use, we suggest choosing one which either matches, or works well with your homes two main colour sources, the brickwork and the roof.
Although a colour chosen from either will work fine, we've found the integration of a secondary colour, which can be used sparingly as contrasting header course or inlay border provides many positive benefits.
Not only does this secondary colour help break up the mono toned area of paving, but also helps create a connection of the pavers to the property.

Paver shape

Both shapes can be laid separately or combined to produce a wide range of paving patterns, borders and header courses.

Paver sizes
*Small format. Suitable for driveway, patio and perimeter paving applications small format pavers include the traditional brick sized and square pavers in an assortment of colours, finishes and sizes up to 300x300mm. Small formatted pavers can be laid in a wide range of patterns and are ideal when paving smaller areas or negotiating properties with steep bumps and tight curvature.
*Large format. Comprising of concrete and stone pavers sized up to 600x600mm, large format pavers are becoming increasingly popular with homes built to a modern styling. Although the larger size of the paver isn't conducive to areas with steep humps or tight curvature, it can be laid to larger properties and patio areas with great visual affect.
Paver thickness
Pavers are manufactured in a range of thicknesses to best suit an intended application. The more weight placed upon the paver the thicker it will need to be.

Although they can fade slightly over time, the concrete pavers Adelaide produces are versatile, long lasting, low in maintenance, and are up to 4 times stronger than poured concrete slabs. Another favourable factor to concrete pavers is the price, of the three paver varieties available they are the most affordable to purchase.

Not only beautiful, the long lasting and hard wearing qualities of clay pavers have made them a popular choice for bricks, paving and landscaping for centuries. Although they can be prone to chipping, the high density and salt resistant properties of clay pavers make them suitable for driveway paving, perimeter paving and pool paving.
Stone pavers can be cut from a range of stone with the most common being Bluestone, Sandstone, Granite, Limestone and Travertine. The colours and textures of Stone pavers are both unique and alluring and can possess a look of luxury and opulence.

Predominantly cut into large format square and rectangular shapes , Stone pavers can be laid in a wide variety of patterns including crazy paving and the classic French pattern.
Stone paving can be applied to most areas but its important to note that varieties such as marble, porcelain and travertine can be damaged under heavy loading such as vehicle use on driveways and although they are salt resistant, can become slippery when wet.
Although not as prevalent to lighter shades, the darker colours of Stone will fade slightly over time and will need to be periodic sealed to keep them at their best.
With larger format pavers resulting in a resurgence of its popularity, the simplicity of the Stack Bond pattern has returned to the patios and pathways of many modern homes. Although Stack Bond is predominantly laid with square pavers, the pattern can also be laid using rectangular pavers.
A timeless classic which still look great on todays new builds. When laid with a header coarse and contrasting pencil line inlay border, Diamond pattern paving provides enormous feature character to any patio, pathway or driveway Although not suited to properties with sharp incline/declines, this pattern can be laid on most other land gradients without an issue.
The classic Stretcher Bond pattern, or brick pattern, is just as popular today as it was years ago. Widely used for patios, pathways and driveways, this pattern is not only strong but offers great visual appeal using either square or rectangular shaped pavers. The Stretcher bond pattern is often partnered with a contrasting header course or pencil border inlay with great affect.
The 90 degree Herringbone pattern can be laid using rectangular pavers of various sizes. Not only popular for pathways and patio areas, the interlocking pattern of Herringbone provides great strength making it ideal for high traffic areas and driveway application.
Although the 45 degree Herringbone pattern is laid the same way as 90 degree, laying the pavers in a diagonal fashion does add extra visual appeal which is accentuated by 90 degree border or header course. The laying of this pattern is made particularly time consuming though due to the large number of cuts which needs to be made along all edges.
Basket weaves simplistic use of rectangular pavers laid in an alternating horizontal and vertical pattern is one of the earliest forms of paving patterns. Laid using either one or multiple colours Basket Weave pattern is suitable for all paving applications and is commonly used when repaving older period homes.
Not limited to just one colour, pavers can be laid using a combination of different colours creating a colourful and unique look. The use of multiple colours can be applied to the entire area or inserted as a smaller feature pattern
A Header course is the name given to the row of pavers laid to the outer edge of the paving pattern. Using either square or rectangular shaped pavers laid in a soldier (side by side) pattern, the header course facilitates precise "cutting in" of the pavers, highlights the inner pattern and creates a neat and definitive edge. The header course can be constructed using the same pavers, or contrasting colours and textures for added presence and visual appeal.
Inlay borders consist of rectangular shaped pavers laid end to end or soldier pattern in-between the pavers header course and main pattern. The use of a contrasting colour, or one chosen from your home's colour scheme, not only provides additional character and visual appeal, but creates a harmonious integration between the paving and the house.
